Sustaining its efforts to supply uninterrupted, high-quality, and sustainable energy, Başkent EDAŞ invested 344 million TL in Zonguldak, a prominent city in the Western Black Sea region with its challenging topography, mining industry, maritime trade, and a population of approximately 600,000, in the first nine months of 2025. Başkent EDAŞ, one of Enerjisa Distribution Companies which lead the energy transformation in Türkiye, sustained its maintenance, repair, and investment works at 3,776 substations and 16,819-kilometer-long energy line in the first nine months of 2025 in order to supply more reliable and uninterrupted energy to more than 425,000 customers in Zonguldak.
In line with its vision to have a better-lit city and to minimize adverse impacts of seasonal and geographical conditions, the company completed the maintenance works in Merkez, Kozlu, Kilimli, Devrek, Alaplı, Gökçebey, Çaycuma and Ereğli districts. The maintenance works covered installation of 9,645 new lighting fixtures, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 65%, 1,131-km-long energy transmission line, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 59%, 29 electricity distribution panels and 95 substations, corresponding to a year-on-year increase of 38% in the first nine months of 2025. As part of the latest investments, the infrastructure was strengthened by completing works for the laying of 104-kilometer-long cable by an increase of 43%, and installation of 996 new lighting fixtures by an increase of 71%, 48 electric distribution panels, and 9 substations.
Preparations Ongoing to Tackle Harsh Winter Conditions
Başkent EDAŞ continues its detailed preparations to ensure the continuity of energy supply in Zonguldak against possible adverse weather conditions during the winter months. Through its ongoing maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation efforts throughout the year, the company strengthens the resilience of the infrastructure, especially in high-altitude areas, while also carrying out preventive maintenance operations throughout the year to prevent potential malfunctions.
Besides regular checks carried out on poles, conductors, and grounding systems that have critical significance, alternative energy lines and underground cable installations ensure minimizing the risk of outages.
