Enerjisa distribution companies complete the grid maintenance works prior to election

Whilst Turkey gets prepared for the Presidential Election and the 28th Term Parliamentary Election to be held on the weekend, required maintenance works were carried out in the electrical infrastructure of the buildings and facilities that have significance related to the election in cities where Enerjisa Distribution Companies serve, and necessary measures were taken.

Nuri Osman Çalışkan, Power Grid & System Operation Director at Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, which provide service in 14 cities in 3 distribution regions in Turkey, stated, "We are trying our best to ensure that the elections will be held uninterruptedly and reliably in terms of electricity. All our colleagues will be on duty for 24 hours on the Election Day. We, a total of 7,700 people and 2,800 vehicles, will be on alert and on duty at our stations on the election day,” regarding the measures taken for the upcoming elections.

Mentioning that they provide service to over 20 million people nationwide, Çalışkan stated, "We are in contact and coordination with the Supreme Election Board (YSK) and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and we have taken the necessary measures at 544 designated points in the three distribution regions we serve. We completed the required maintenance works at these locations, and we can also remotely control these locations via the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. We also completed the final electronic tests to check whether the SCADA systems are working."

Stating that they had taken the necessary additional measures at various locations, such as provincial election boards, vote collection centers, political parties’ headquarters, customs and airports designated by the YSK, Çalışkan added, "We are in contact with the General Directorate of Security. The law enforcement officers will also support us, as we are taking measures in our distribution centers, step-down transformer centers and transformer buildings that supply energy to these centers with their support."

Approximately 1000 generators in the distribution region to ensure supply continuity in the grid

Underlining that they procured approximately 1000 generators of various capacities to ensure supply continuity in the electricity grid, Çalışkan remarked that they would put these generators into operation to avoid any interruption in the electrical grid during and following the elections.

Çalışkan also mentioned the operations carried out on the electricity infrastructure in the earthquake zone, and expressed that they also supplied energy to the containers in Hatay, as well as Islahiye and Nurdağı districts in Gaziantep so that the grids can operate smoothly.

Mobile SCADA center to be activated in the event of any unusual circumstances

Çalışkan also stated that they would use the Mobile SCADA Supervision Center in the event any unusual circumstances are experienced at the SCADA centers within the buildings.

Highlighting that the SCADA supervision center built within a bus is the first implementation worldwide, Çalışkan remarked that if the buildings are affected by a disaster or unusual circumstances, they can monitor and manage the entire grid via the mobile center.

Any power failures to be intervened with live connection from the field

Addressing the ‘Video Confirmation System’, which enables the field teams intervene the failure via live connection, Çalışkan stated that they could watch the field teams online while the teams intervene to the power failure.

Stating that they can watch the field teams online during the election time thanks to the mentioned system, Çalışkan remarked, "All our employees are equipped with this device. Currently, our field teams are equipped with 5,500 pcs. of these devices."

Enerjisa Distribution Companies continue their operations in Ankara, Bartın, Çankırı, Karabük, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale and Zonguldak through Başkent EDAŞ; at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul through Ayedaş and in Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Mersin and Osmaniye through Toroslar EDAŞ.
