Başkent EDAŞ in the field throughout the Western Black Sea region due to the storm

  • Başkent EDAŞ, without wasting any time, began its repair operations with 1,155 field employees and 512 vehicles at various locations in Kastamonu, Zonguldak, Karabük and Bartın to repair the malfunctions that occurred due to the storm.

Once a strong storm caused power outages in Kastamonu, Zonguldak, Karabük and Bartın, Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Başkent EDAŞ), which is the company in charge for electricity distribution in these provinces, initiated fault repair activities with field teams on duty at the certain intersection points in the region.

Following the storm that hit Zonguldak in the Western Black Sea region last week, Başkent EDAŞ had completed its preparations in accordance with the meteorological forecasts indicating a possible new storm.

As the strong storm hit the entire region as from Saturday night, Başkent EDAŞ disaster teams, consisting of 1,155 employees on duty, quickly began the repair works at the strategic locations they had been deployed.

The first damage assessments of Başkent EDAŞ teams revealed that the storm initially impacted the grid in Kastamonu. While 68 percent of the damage on the grid in the Western Black Sea region occurred in Kastamonu, 10 percent of the damage occurred in Zonguldak. The remaining malfunctions were in Karabük and Bartın.

  • Ongoing strong coordination

Thanks to its pre-winter investments, experienced management, and expert field teams in tackling disasters, Başkent EDAŞ quickly resolved the power failures last week, which could have been overcome in a much longer period. This weekend, Başkent EDAŞ teams put all their efforts to ensure that their customers in the Western Black Sea region are not affected by adverse weather conditions.

Taking all precautions as part of the efforts against adverse weather conditions and disasters, Başkent EDAŞ continues its operations in collaboration with public institutions and stakeholders.

The Company sustains its efforts to meet the energy requirement at critical locations in cities such as the governorate, municipalities, hospitals, police stations, and dams that meet water requirement of the city, etc. Furthermore, the Company continues to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in the field such as AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), Fire Brigade, General Directorate of Highways and General Directorate of Forestry.
