Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş (Başkent EDAŞ) builds, maintains and operates electricity distribution grids in provinces within Başkent Electricity Distribution Region. Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş enables 7.5 million people access electricity distribution within Electricity Distribution Region which covers Ankara, Bartın, Çankırı, Karabük, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale and Zonguldak provinces.
Providing generation, distribution, wholesale and retail services in the electric energy sector in Turkey, Enerjisa was awarded the tender for the privatisation of 100% of the shares of Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. through block selling method on July 1, 2008 for US $1,225 million. The transfer of the shares was completed on January 28th, 2009. In 2009, although a significant shrinkage was experienced in electric consumption in Turkish industry, as well as 2010 and 2011, Başkent EDAŞ’s figures and the stable, year-over-year growth rates achieved verified the strategic advantage of having a specific subscriber structure. During the beginning of 2011, Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) defined the basic regulation frame for the operation of Turkish distribution regions to be effective for 5 years between 2011 and 2015.
A significant investment was made to upgrade the system of Başkent EDAŞ, the acquired company and to improve the customer services in particular. With the integration process initiated before the transfer date, the transfer was successfully completed in terms of operational and financial performance. Başkent EDAŞ focuses on the market dynamics of the sector and continues its activities accordingly.
